Directions to Meeting Tuesday March 20, 2012
Take the 495 Beltway to the Tyson's Corner/route 7 exit west. Go
about 1 mile, past the 123 overpass and the start of the Metro
Rail construction. On the right will be a Container Store and a
McDonalds. Take a right at the next signal, onto Spring Hill
Rd. Follow Spring Hill Rd up a slight hill and turn left at the
first signal onto a parking lot. Bear right of the rail and down a
ramp. Charlie's Intersport shop is on your immediate left with a bunch of Porsches parked in front.
Minutes of March 20 meeting
Guys, these notes relate to what we discussed at the meeting, but
include a follow on conversation I had with Abram Van Dover of the
Brainbuster's club on Wednesday, 21 May and ideas that developed from
those.
We had a meeting at Charlie Murphy's shop 20 March with about 6 in
attendance (Not much of a showing). The treasurer, Dave Lacey was
on a trip to FL and therefore no treasurer's report, but assume no
major expenditures.
Jack Felter reported on conversations with Ken Greene, our contact for
the flying fields near Culpeper. Some of the fields that we have
used are not being planted at this time as the Inskeep family is busy
opening some new fields n orth of Culpeper. Basically the Byrd
Field in Mitchell, VA is open and can be used. Insurance from AMA
is in place for the year and we should be able to hold a contest there
sometime this spring or early summer. This contest would be a
collaboration among CAAMA, Brainbusters (of Hampton Roads) and the
Maxecuters.
Review of the calendar shows a few limited weekend windows for
scheduling a one or two day meet. In order to get the word out
for potential participants, the earliest dates that are practical
would appear to be 28-29 April or 5-6 May. Later dates in May run
into conflict with Mother's Day and the Indoor AMA Nationals at Johnson
City TN. There is the Kudzu FAC/Maxecuter contest on June 2 and
3, so this seems to indicate something later in June. The 9th and
10th are open as is Father's Day weekend, the 16th and 17th. The
earlier date is perhaps too close to the Kudzu meet for most folks and
family matters may be a problem for Father's Day.
Based on this analysis, the 23rd and 24th of June stand out as the most
likely of the "early" contest dates that have the least issues.
Perhaps these are good dates to get those last test flights in for the
FAC or AMA Nats (or both).
Charlie has a great suggestion regarding a memorial event for Jack
Gore. Jack left us with a large collection (about 40) of
beautifully built and ready to fly rubber models. These ranged
from P-30 to OT Wakefield models. Charlie's suggested event would
be for a group of model fliers to draw lots or pick out a model to fly
in a "contest" in Jack's memory, believing he would have wanted to see
them flown, not given away or collected. The contest could be
either a mass launch event or a three flight event or a combination of
both. This could be held in conjunction with the above meet or
held separately.
Feedback on the above is welcome, but we need decisions early on.
The flying season is upon us and planning time is fast slipping away.

You probably have this already, but I just found it from SAMTalk:
http://www.homefly.com
It has some reference data on covering weights, small plastic gears, motors, LiPos, propellers, etc.
